THE HISTORY OF THE ORIGINAL ROTARACT CLUB

The Rotaract Club of Cal State LA was formed in 1992, by Hilda Terriquez, one of the founders. It authored its history up to April 1998.

​

The club co-sponsors were: Montebello Rotary, Monterey Park Rotary (Ron Britten), Alhambra Rotary, and San Marino Rotary (Bill Payne)

​

The advisors for Rotaract of Cal State LA were Michael Fels, then George Umezawa (Center for Student Life)

​

Membership went from 16 to 21 when it first started (January 1992).

​

The Time Capsule from the Original Rotaract Club of Cal State LA was unveiled on October 27th, 2019 at the Metrolink Train Stop at Cal State LA.

EARLY CLUB PROJECTS
  • Alhambra Gardens Convalescent Home (1 hour, furnished entertainment)

  • Two-day Fashion Shows (raised $1,600)

  • 8-mile Menuedo Mile Rotary relay (4 Rotary teams participated)

  • Graffiti clean-up (25 people)

  • Tree planting at Eaton Canyon (Altadena, CA)

  • 4th of July fireworks stands (East Los Angeles and Monterey Park)

  • The 1992 D5300 convention at the Queen Mary (Long Beach, CA)

  • Visiting Ensenada, Baja Tijuana, and Guadalupe, Mexico orphanages

  • Taking down toiletries, household and cooking supplies and non-perishable foods

  • Colorado River/Parker Indian Reservation trip to Arizona, 4 times, 40 ppl, participating in the construction of wilderness preservation (tree planting) project

  • Riot Victim Application Assistance
